Apalit, Pampanga Philippines (June 10, 2016) – Ang Dating Daan (ADD) marks a milestone in religious broadcasting when the program aired its Worldwide Bible Exposition, popularly known as “Bible Expo,” through Facebook Live video streaming. It is the first time that a religious group used this social media feature in propagating the gospel which lasted for more than two hours. It also made its simultaneous live broadcast in Ang Dating Daan YouTube channel.
Ang Dating Daan (The Old Path) is currently the longest-running religious program in the Philippines produced by the Members Church of God International (MCGI). It is hosted by televangelist Brother Eliseo F. Soriano, popularly known as “Bro. Eli,” the Overall Servant to MCGI.
Prior to its Facebook Live debut, the Bible Expo in Filipino can only be seen exclusively in over 1,360 satellite monitoring centers of MCGI while its counterparts in Portuguese (O Caminho Antigo), Spanish (El Camino Antiguo) and English (The Old Path) already started airing through its official YouTube channels last year.
The Bible Expo offers a unique question and answer format, popularly known as “Itanong Mo Kay Soriano, Biblia Ang Sasagot” (Ask Bro Eli, The Bible Will Answer) where the live audience from different remote points can ask spontaneous questions of faith, spirituality and religion to Bro. Eli, who is now based in South America for the church’s global evangelism effort. The live Bible Expo in was aired in Facebook starting 6:30 pm (Philippine time) in three (3) parts due to the 90-minute limit imposed by Facebook. As of writing, the episode was shared almost thirty thousand times and was viewed by more than three hundred fifty thousand times reaching more than one (1) million audience. The event’s official hashtag #AnswersInTheBible also peaked on the 3rd spot in Twitter Philippine trends at 8:10 pm with more than nineteen thousand tweets.
Eli Soriano.
(Translated in English: Apostle Paul reached the first Christians through letters, much more through satellite, livestreaming, Facebook and other media platforms to reach you spiritually. We are trying our best to establish monitoring centers for our fellowmen in all parts of the globe. – Bro. Eli Soriano)
It was earlier announced by veteran broadcaster Bro. Daniel S. Razon, Assistant to the Overall Servant to MCGI, that MCGI’s Bible Expo will soon air via live streaming on Facebook Live. Bro. Daniel Razon also known as “Kuya” made the announcement on Saturday, June 4, 2016 during his visit in South Korea to personally meet the brethren. He discussed how advancement in technology makes worldwide evangelization a lot easier and very much accessible.
“We will leverage the portability of the technology that we have nowadays and use in reaching out to our fellowmen,” stated Bro. Daniel. He also added that “Bro. Eli no longer has to personally go to different places — now, he can be in one place and reach the whole world.”
“Our upcoming activity will be our [Worldwide] Bible Exposition, and God willing, we will be broadcasting it on our Facebook channel so that we can reach and invite more people. Those who can go to the [ADD] Coordinating Centers, you may do so and bring your relatives, friends and acquaintances. But just the same, we are giving everyone other possible means [to be able to attend the Worldwide Bible Exposition], especially those who are in remote places, and in different countries,” says Bro. Daniel during the MCGI’s weekly Thanksgiving to God service.
Meanwhile, viewers who were not able to ask may visit the official websites of the church such as www.angdatingdaan.org and www.theoldpath.tv for a vast resource of frequently asked questions previously answered by Bro. Eli.
Bro. Eli started his nightly town-to-town preaching in the 1970s but eventually realized that his lifetime is not enough to reach the entire Philippines. In October 1980, he decided to go on air by launching a 30-minute radio program in DWWA 1206 kHz and eventually on television in 1993 through IBC-13. The Bible Exposition started in 1993 and was a brainchild of Kuya Daniel which aims to bring back how Bro. Eli used to go to different towns to preach.
“With God’s help and mercy, the Bible Exposition has continued to prosper and has been fruitful. Thanks be to God.” said Bro. Daniel Razon. “God is merciful. We trust that as we were all able to hear Bro. Eli’s preaching, we will be able to let our fellowmen hear our faith as well,” ended Bro. Daniel.
MCGI is using the modern technology to bring Bible Expo to a wider audience and spread the gospel on a worldwide scope through live streaming. Meanwhile, Bible Expositions in Portuguese and Spanish-speaking audiences are held weekly. Today, MCGI programs are carried by at least seven satellites across the globe. [techthetruth]
