Quezon City, Philippines (July 17, 2016) – A lot of specialty coffee shops have sprouted in the metropolis in recent years. Each of them offers a different kind of coffee experience, with foreign coffee shops dominating the segment. But this will not stop veteran journalist and UNTV-BMPI CEO Daniel S. Razon, also known as “Kuya Daniel,” in bringing Daniel’s Coffee, a Filipino brand which offers unique and delicious taste.
In June 2016, Kuya Daniel has entered the competitive coffee shop segment with the opening of Daniel’s Coffee in Quezon City, with more branches coming soon. Daniel’s Coffee Philippines brings a new and exciting concept, setting a big difference with the established names in café business, a coffee shop in a television studio.
Daniel’s pioneer branch is located inside the UNTV Building, along EDSA Philam. It is situated in front of the upcoming Central Business District (CBD) development in Quezon City, the “Triangle Park.” It is also just a few walks away from Ayala Land’s TriNoma Mall, Filinvest Land’s Zinnia Towers and the MRT-3 North Avenue station.
Coffee shop in a TV studio concept
Daniel’s concept was initially intended to give UNTV’s morning show, Get It Straight with Daniel Razon, a new and fresh look. The newly renovated studio, designed like a coffee shop, was launched in February 2016.
Kuya Daniel revealed that he really wanted to have an interactive conversation with his guests while drinking coffee, in a coffee shop setting. Meanwhile, those people inside the café will have the chance to “eavesdrop” by watching the live interview. However, he realized that this can’t be done in outside location. So he decided to come up with a coffee shop-inspired set inside the TV station.
Get It Straight offers a platform for notable personalities to discuss controversial topics and relevant issues in the country. The program stands out with Kuya Daniel throwing hard-hitting questions, as guests would have the feeling of being in a trial. This is in line with the program’s slogan “Bawal ang Pikon.” It serves as a friendly warning to guests, for them not to be easily angered by jokes or jests during the one-on-one, no holds barred interview.
As the innovative concept turned out to be very effective and appealing, Kuya Daniel decided to make it a full-time coffee shop.
Notable personalities and guests
With Daniel’s Coffee strategically located inside a TV station, customers will likely to have a close encounter with prominent personalities, whether in government, entertainment and the media. On its first month of operations, politicians and artists were seen enjoying the café’s wide variety of beverages and pastries. Some of its guests include new senators Leila De Lima, Riza Hontiveros-Baraquel and Win Gatchalian, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Atty. Salvador Panelo, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Perfecto Yasay, National Anti-Poverty Commission Secretary Liza Maza and Marikina Congressman Bayani Fernando. Celebrities like actor Kier Legazpi, TV host Eagle Riggs and veteran broadcaster Rhea Santos were also spotted at Daniel’s.
The most recent live guesting held at Daniel’s Coffee was with new Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa. It was aired live in UNTV and through Facebook Live. As of writing, the live interview that was aired through UNTV’s Facebook page on Friday, July 15, 2016, has reached more than 150,000 views.
The coffee shop also served as a venue for some of UNTV’s entertainment programs like Wish FM 1075 on TV. Music artists who already performed live at Daniel’s include Jed Madela, 5th Gen, Leah Patricio and international singing sensation 4th Impact.
Good business opportunity
The TV program’s reformat became a very good business opportunity for Kuya Daniel and his wife Arlene Razon. Kuya Daniel said that they already planned to start a café business long time ago, and having Daniel’s is actually a dream come true. The Quezon City branch serves as the prototype for them to learn how to run the business.
Own menu and food choices
Since the real game in coffee shop business is the food and beverage offerings, Daniel’s created its own menu options aside from its unique studio concept and relaxing store ambiance. Kuya Daniel revealed that they personally took care of the coffee and food tasting and ensure that they know the taste of everything on the menu. He ensures that they are satisfied with everything Daniel’s Coffee has to offer.
Quoted from his official website, Kuya Daniel said “Personally, kami yung nag-food tasting. Kami iyong nag coffee tasting.” “Kailangan walang nandyan na hindi natin nagustuhan.” he added.
Kuya Daniel announced that he has been receiving positive feedback from satisfied customers since the café’s soft-opening on June 13, 2016. He said that most are saying that the coffee shop is very competitive and can match against foreign brands of coffee shops in terms of taste, presentation and affordability.
Satisfied customers keep on posting photographs of their food orders and group selfies at Daniel’s. Its official Facebook account already got more than 20,000 likes and more than 2,000 Instagram followers just within a month.
More branches coming soon
Daniel’s Coffee announced that 3 stores will be opened in Pampanga, Malolos (Bulacan), and south of Manila by end-2016.
“We are happy to announce as well na God-willing mayroon na kaming tinitingnan ngayon na ibang branch. So, iba-branch out na namin for full operation.” Kuya Daniel said.
Daniel’s Coffee is located at the UNTV Building, 907 EDSA Philam Homes, Quezon City, Philippines. The store is open Mondays to Fridays from 6am to 10pm and Sundays from 9am to 10pm. [techthetruth]
